Learning Styles!!!

As a student, we should know our learning styles, the strengths and also the weaknesses of the learning styles and then to think of ways we can create a link between our style of learning and the expectation of each course and each instructor.
There are many learning styles, how about we start with simple one: called FIELD DEPENDENCE / INDEPENDENCE. Field dependent learners are tend to learn effectively when there are frequent interaction with other students. Whereas field independent learners are tend to be highly autonomous. If we feel lonely and alienated in our class because there is only a one-way of communication between we and our teacher, we are in field dependent learner. Vice-versa, we may become annoyed if our teacher spend times in creating ways to us interact with our classmate. Let say, we are the field-dependent learner, we are taking a large lecturer class and want to interact with other students or with lecturer (since we can learn more effective) we should arrange study sessions with them, have conversations before and after the class with our friends and take advantage of our lecturer offices hours.
Lets move to the other one of learning styles; which is the most widely used and the best known personalities inventories, MYERS-BRIGGS TYPE INDICATOR or MBTI.
The preference of MBTI =
Extraversion vs Introversion (talkative vs quiet)
Sensing vs Intuition (facts or ideas)
Thinking vs Feeling (logic vs value)
Judging vs Perceiving (organize or adaptability)

Every types have their own best and worst. However we are not allow that to be an excuse for doing less than we can!!!
Therefore we should try to overcome our worst so that we can learn more effectively. Notice that all the psychological types described by the MBTI are normal and healthy; there is no wrong or right- PEOPLE ARE SIMPLY UNIQUE AND DIFFERENT!
If there is mismatch between how we learn best and how we are being taught, it is important that we should take control over our learning process. We should employ our own unique preferences, talents, ability, in developing ways to learn and retain knowledge!
I think enough for now. Hope we will be success in our life in this world and thereafter!!!!!!

Our Facial Muscles!!!

Do you inquire how we can change our facial expressions? Do you realize that the interpretations of facial expressions can provide an idea of the variety of information that can be derived from nonverbal communication?!
Aha! Now I would like to share with you how we can change our facial expression. Thanks to Allah who made for us such a worthy gift; a facial muscles! Because by these muscles then we can laugh, talk, eat and etc. Do you ever wonder what your facial muscles are?
Actually, the facial muscles are a group of striated muscles innervated by the facial nerve that, among other things, control facial expression. These muscles are also called mimetic muscles.
The muscles are like elastic sheets that are stretched in layers over the cranium, facial bones, the openings they form, and the cartilage, fat, and other tissues of the head. These are the muscles of facial expression, acting singly and in combination.
For the structure of the muscles ,they are innervated by cranial nerve VII, also known as the facial nerve. In contrast, the nearby masticatory muscles are innervated by the mandibular nerve, a branch of the trigeminal nerve.
Corresponding to the several sources of expressive information in the face are the many nonverbal communication messages that the face can provide. Some of these messages are validly related to characteristics of the person behind the face, some are fabrications of the viewer unrelated to the real person, and others lie somewhere between these two extremes. Much of the research on the face is centered on discovering the messages that fit into these different categories. Another perspective on the range of facial messages is to consider objective description, such as a list of physical anatomical measurements, as an anchor for veridical information, and ever more abstract generalizations or inferences about characteristics more remote from these specific observations becoming increasingly difficult to verify.
To sum up, the most important source of change in facial expression is the set of muscular movements produced by facial muscles, which provide the most substantial changes in facial appearance over short time durations and contribute most to nonverbal communication by the face.

My rigorous efforts in improving my English

Well, we meet again! I've been so busy since final exam just around the corner! That why I need to improve my English language skills; listening, writing, reading, and speaking.
For listening skill, I choose to listen an English song, radio programe(english-of course!), English news(Night Line at Tv3), watching an English movie or a talk show like CSI and Martha Stewart respectively.

The other skills, which is writing, I use to write an essays to improve it(actually, I have to do it as it is a "gifts" from my lovely teacher Ms Eliza)HeHeHe. Other than that, I write my journal in a blog (like I'm doing right now). I also try to analysis a sample essays and try to write like it.
Before this I don't know that it is important to have thesys statement to attract people read our essay.By an exposer from Pn.Fatimah, I gained more knowledge on a writting skills.(thank you!)

As for the reading skill, I actually quite blur about the format of IELTS paper for reading skill. But it doesn't mean that I do nothing! I had read a passage and tried to understand it and answer the questions about the passage.

Last but not least, speaking skill. For me it is quite though skill, since before this I rarely use English in my coversation with people. I do understand what they said but not confident enough to talk back. So to overcome it, I try to read a loud to get the pronounsiation and get use listening my own self speaking in English. Other than that, I ty to had a coversation with my friends using English.

Even though my English skills still not really good like other my friends but I proud of my self that show an improvement. Alhamdulillah, thank You Allah!

I am sleepy right now!
Bye, good night and have sweet dream!!!

p/s : GOOD LUCK for the final exam!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Martial arts

Hi, we meet again! This time I will talk about martial arts that are vary in many culture in the world like in Asia, Europe and Americas culture. Before that, what is 'martial art' all about? Well, martial arts are systems of codified practices and traditions of training for combat. They may be studied for various reasons including combat skills, fitness, self-defense, sport, self-cultivation/meditation, mental discipline, character development and building self-confidence, or any combination of the above.
In Asia, the teaching of martial arts has historically followed the cultural traditions of teacher-disciple apprenticeship. Mostly, the instructor directly supervise their students' training, and the students are expected to memorize and recite as closely as possible the rules and basic training routines of the school. In many countries local arts like Te in Okinawa, Kenjutsu and Ju-Jutsu in Japan, and Taekyon and Soobak in Korea mixed with other martial arts and evolved to produce some of the more well-known martial arts in the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries like Karate, Aikido, and Taekwondo.
In Europe, the martial arts declined with the rise of the firearms. As a consequence, martial arts with historical roots in Europe do not exist today to the same extent as in Asia. Martial arts existed in classical European civilization, most notably in Greece where sports were integral to the way of life. Boxing (pygme, pyx), Wrestling (pale) and Pankration (from pan, meaning "all", and kratos, meaning "power" or "strength") were represented in the Ancient Olympic Games. The Romans produced Gladiatorial combat as a public spectacle.(did you notice most of the Europe are made for a sport?)
Lets take a look to Americas martial arts history. The native peoples of North America and South America had their own martial training which began in childhood. Many Native American men considered themselves warriors and trained to use the bows, knives, blowguns, spears, and war clubs. War-clubs were the preferred martial weapon because Native American warriors could raise their social status by killing enemies in single combat face to face! Then when the European colonists came, they brought over their own martial arts such as boxing, fencing and wrestling.
Martial arts nowaday become not only just an 'art from the ancient', but also a 'shell' to protect ourselves, a military and police forces uses, and also as events in modern Summer Olympic Games.
Well, got to go!
See next time!
bye........

My wonderful Eid 2007

My wonderful Eid (2007)

Yay! On 1st of Syawal, all Muslim around the world will celebrate raya (eid) together after a month we had fast. Want to know how my family celebrate Eid? This year many differences had occur in my family tradition in celebrating Hari Raya. Why this is happening ? Lets find out.

A day before Raya

First of all, this year, my family didn’t made any type of kuih raya at ALL! Before this my mum must do the kuih raya at least for three types. Well, this is because my mum got chicken pox! Me, myself couldn’t help her since I came back from UNITEN two days before raya. All I can do is help mum to inspection our house that is topsy-turvy before I came home. After a very long and exhausted day, my father took me and my siblings to wan’s house (grandma’s house) at Selayang, to break our fast for the last day of Ramadhan (mum was not followed us). My maklong’s family and paklang’s family had arrived at my wan’s house before us. When we arrived, they were so busy cooked a rendang, nasi impit, kuah kacang and many more as the preparation for the Hari Raya. After breaking our fast, my sister, brothers and cousins played bunga api ( it is my family tradition ) that was “sponsored” by pakitam (he celebrate raya with his wife’s family at Johor). Suddenly my pakndak came out with a big fireworks. We all so excited to see it, except my little brother (he had phobia playing the bunga api). He was so scared until his body was shaking! My pakndak fire it and it was so beautiful, big, colorful and loud fireworks. I can not believe it just above my head! Since my little brother kept asking me when to go home, there fore my father decided to go home earlier than we used to be (another difference in my family tradition for this year).

The first day of Raya

We all get up early and we were excited to wear our new clothes. For this year my family had choose magenta color as my family’s theme for the ‘baju raya’(it is our tradition to wear the same color of clothes). After we were done, we ask apologize to each other and the most important is getting the duit raya from my mum and my father(hahaha-just kidding). Before we went to the mosque for solat sunat Eid , we had breakfast together. After that, we went to the nenek’s house (grandmother for my father side) to greet and ask apologize to each other there. About 12 o’clock , we went back to wan’s house to celebrate raya with my mum’s side of family. We do just like the same activity at nenek’s house. Another our tradition is we will gather and take a photograph together and also family by family. Maklong’s family wear a bright green of baju raya and paklang’s family wear a cheerful yellow color of baju raya. (it accidentally just like the color of traffic light when we gather together ! =D ) . For this year, we did not went to grave since my mum not really well yet (aha, another difference that occur in our tradition). For that night, we all go to the Klang to visit wan’s cousins( atok uda) and his family.

I am so thankfull to Allah because give the oppurtunity and chance to me to celebrate raya together with almost all my lovely family. We had a really great time and I hope the "bond" that bonding us will last forever!

By the way,
SELAMAT HARI RAYA AIDILFITRI
MAAF ZAHIR & BATIN!!!

Work,Attitudes and Beliefs and Social Changes (working mothers)

More and more people nowadays prefer to work at home - especially a mother!.Making the decision on working at home give mum everything they want. With an excellent time management,it is not surprise if they can run their business successfully! The question is how to start it? The most publicized way of working at home is to take an existing career and simply change offices. The home office replaces the business office, and email and telephone help reduces the gap.Or mum can start a new business and be an employer. But there still a challenge by working at home that mum have to overcome it! Working at home can make them feel isolated since there is no other colleague around and at the same time mum have to interact with little people with a topic important to them. Also, mum have to create a schedule when she is a "worker" and when she at home. This help them to have a quality time with their children, husband, work and mostly themselves! Working at home is a wonderful opportunity. With a little bit of sacrifices, and effort to create a distinct “working” mindset, mum can have the best of both worlds.

I will make it -SUCCESSFULLY!!
